2010 At-Home Jobs

To apply for a job, register yourself as an adult volunteer and select the "at home job" option. Our volunteer coordinator will call the at-home volunteers in the order their applications are received.

General Camp Jobs

1. Propane tanks & charcoal
Pick up the 7 camp owned propane tanks, (they are the half size 2.5 lb. tanks), in Foster City, take them to be filled and deliver them to Huddart Park on camp set-up day in the morning. You can pick up the propane tanks anytime after May 8, as long as they are delivered on camp set-up day. Purchase small camp stove propane tanks (number to be advised) and 500 lbs. of charcoal and deliver to Huddart Park on camp set-up day with the propane tanks. Check with the Equipment manager on Friday evening July 11th or Saturday July 12th to determine how much or if charcoal is needed for the second week; purchase that amount and deliver it anytime before 2 PM on Monday. Camp pays for all the propane and charcoal, so hang onto your receipts.

2. Wash Cooking Discloths and Towels The girls cook lunch on Friday 7/16, the second Thursday 7/22 dinner and Friday 7/23 breakfast. We need the dishcloths and towels used by units for cooking on Friday 7/16, picked up, washed and dried, and returned to camp on Monday so they are ready to be used again on Thursday and Friday 7/22 & 23. Then we need them picked up on Friday 7/23 at the end of camp, washed and dried, so we can pack them away for next year. Someone at camp will transport them to Redwood City, San Mateo, or Foster City, which ever is closest for you on Friday 7/16 after camp and at the close of camp. You are responsible for getting them back to camp on Monday 7/19 (or making arrangements for them to get to camp on your daughter's bus), and for getting them to Redwood City, San Mateo, or Foster City, which ever is closest within the week after camp is over. 3. Collate, Staple, Stuff, Seal, Label and Stamp (2 people total) approximately 550 camper letters and 130 adult volunteer letters divided between 2 people. Need help getting out the letters mailed to Campers with transportation and camp information, and then help stuffing the envelopes for the Basics Unit Leader and Program Leader Volunteers. You can pick up all the materials to be collated and stuffed along with labels, stamps and envelopes after April 10 and they need to be returned, ready for mailing by May 1.

4. Equipment moving, set up, take down. (6 jobs total)
5 drivers with large vehicles: suburbans, minivans, pick up trucks or full sized station wagons. We will load camp equipment and picnic tables in Redwood City and or Foster City, drive to Huddart Park and load the camp shed on on camp set-up day, Sunday, July 11 starting at 9 AM. Camp equipment is also stored in a POD storage unit, which will be delivered directly to Huddart Park and needs to be unloaded into the camp shed. On camp break-down day Friday, July 23, starting at 1pm, we will reload at Huddart Park and return equipment to storage shed and RWC and FC. Allow 6 hours each day or until the job is done.

5. Set Up/Break Down help (6 - 8 jobs)
6-8 additional people to help unload picnic tables and equipment from the driver's cars and the POD storage unit. Picnic tables need to be placed in units at camp and equipment in the storage shed. Need to be at Huddart for set-up and break-down on July 11th and July 23th.

6. Help medic review and organize health forms
Come to her home in Redwood City and help sort forms, etc. 3 days in June. (5 hours each day)

7. Arrange to pick up ice cream at Dryer's in Oakland
Call our camp contact who will arrange for the donation. Your job is to drive over to Rockridge and pick it up, then deliver to camp about 1 pm on our County Fair Day, July 22. They will carry it out for you.

8. Emergency/Sick/Late Arrival Contact
During the two weeks of camp , take messages each evening and morning from parents calling their child in absent to camp. We will take attendance at camp and make contact each morning to compare information. You would also be the emergency contact should we have an emergency arise at camp. Must have voicemail or answering machine to take parent's messages, and we need to be able to contact you each morning during camp.

9. Coffee Angels (5 jobs total, 2 days each)
Bring coffee and a tray of snacks to camp by 8:30a.m. Coffee pots and containers provided for you to pick up (from camp staff and/or previous angel). We have cambros to transport the hot coffee safely. Dates:

  1. July 12 and 13 (1 person, 2 days)
  2. July 14 and 15 (1 person, 2 days)
  3. July 16 and 19 (1 person, 2 days)
  4. July 20 and 21 (1 person, 2 days)
  5. July 22 and 23 (1 person, 2 days)

 

10. Clean out program shed. Craft supplies moving, set up, take down. (3 jobs total)
3 drivers with large vehicles: Suburbans, minivans, pick up trucks or full sized station wagons, trailers, etc.  We will load all craft supplies and equipment in Foster City, Belmont or Hillsborough, drive to Huddart and load the program shed on July 11. Shed at Huddart Park must be swept out first. On July 21, you will reload at Huddart and return equipment to storage shed in Foster City. Allow 6 hours each day or until the job is done.

Sort and package Treasure Hunt prizes by unit. To be completed in mid-June.

12. Staff Manuals
2010 Dates: Pick up materials from Director on April 15.
Put together staff manuals. Return to Director no later than April 25. You will receive enough materials to put together up to 75 manuals. Materials include: 3 ring binders, printed manual, dividers, binder pockets, sheet protectors, binder front, binder spine, sample manual.
Estimated job time = 15 hours.

101. Skills day camp shopper
Go shopping every day for food needed for the skills program the next day at camp. You will get a call after day camp each day to tell you what is needed and you will need to shop and have it delivered before 9 pm so it can be brought up to day camp the next day.

Jobs After Camp Ends

501. Dutch Ovens (6 jobs total)
Pick up 6 dutch ovens on the last day of camp at Huddart Park ( approx 1-4 p.m.) or at another location that evening. Wash with hot, soapy water, dry with paper towel and coat with a thin layer of salad oil. Season (heat) in your home oven at 325 degrees for 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Return to shed in Redwood City by Oct. 1st. We have about 36 dutch ovens total (6 per person).

502. Clean & Store Ice Cream Makers (2 jobs total)
Pick up Ice Cream makers, wash them, dry them, inventory any lost parts, apply a thin layer of salad oil to preserve the wood. Return to Director's in San Mateo by October 1. Pick up at Huddart Park on last day of camp (1-4 pm)

703. Unit Box
Items needed to be purchased and delivered to camp by camp set-up day between 11-12noon. Some items need to be broken down before delivery and a few broken down when you're there. Set up the Unit boxes with their items (may have 2 Aides assisting) based on list - approx. 3 hours. On camp break-down day, starting at noon, break down unit boxes for storage return - approx. 3 hour. Camp pays for all the items, so please hang onto your receipts.

Each unit will be making ice cream and the ingredients need to be purchased and delivered daily. Purchase, and breakdown ingredients and deliver each evening for the units to make ice cream the next day. Location for drop off is Foster City. Approximately 6 units each day. Each unit of campers receives a snack each afternoon. Your job is to purchase Snacks, separated and labeled clearly per unit (labels and instructions provided) and drop them off once the first week and once the second week. Location for drop-off to be determined. Camp pays for all the snacks, so please hang onto your receipts.

707. Older Girl Buyer
You will be responsible for purchasing and delivering food for the Older Girl Units the second week of camp. You will receive a food list, purchase the items, break them into unit boxes and deliver them to camp. Delivery happens on Tuesday July 20 and Wednesday July 21 in the morning. You should plan on 45 minutes at camp to help distribute food. Camp pays for all food, save your receipts

708. Food Buyer Manager
You will be communicating with the food buyers and Older Girl buyer. After the units choose a menu (from a set choice list) you will break the lists down into shopping lists by store, then email or distribute to your buyers. When the buyers meet at the breakdown location (TBD) you oversee packaging the food into individual unit boxes depending on unit menus and the loading back into buyers cars to be delivered to Huddart Park. You should plan on being at the park on delivery day to help oversee the distribution of unit food boxes and to handle any missing or incorrect items. You do not have to be at the park for the Older Girl unit deliveries, only the Friday morning, July 11 and Thursday afternoon July 17, deliveries, again allowing time to over see the distribution and handle any missing items.

709. Food Buyer for Camper cooking (9 jobs total)
Campers cook 3 meals during camp. You will be responsible for purchasing bulk and food items from your assigned store or stores, delivering them to the breakdown distribution point, helping to break into individual unit food boxes, and delivering food to camp.

  • For the first meal, purchasing/breakdown happens on the first Thursday of camp, July 15th and delivery happens on the first Friday morning, July 16. You should allow driving time to Huddart Park, and 45 minutes at camp separating food boxes for the Friday morning delivery.
  • The last 2 meals (dinner, breakfast) take place on the last Thursday/Friday of camp July 22 and 23. Again you will receive a list for your assigned store, purchase the items, deliver to breakdown location and deliver to camp. Purchasing can happen on your schedule, but breakdown into unit boxes happens Thursday morning July 22, with delivery to Huddart Park by 1:00 PM. Again, plan to stay approximately 45 minutes to help distribute food.
  • Camp pays for all food, save your receipts.

710. Camp Culinary Buyer
Buy food supplies for Camp Culinary Academy IF this older unit is chosen by the girls. You will need to purchase food supplies and drop off at the unit leader’s home the night before (preferred) or possibly send with your child on the bus. Older girl units will be decided on May 1. If you pick this job earlier than May 1, there is a possibility that the unit will not go and therefore you may have to choose another at home job. Job to be done during camp.

Bus Stop Monitor Job Description: Each bus stop needs a parent to check campers on and off the bus. Please arrive 15 min prior to when the bus is due. Must attend a one hour meeting in July right before camp, in the evening to go over instructions. Must have a cell phone.
